I have many opinions about tomato sauce.
I’ve always said that tomato sauce is something
you should just make yourself.
It’s easy enough, and I’ve built my career on the belief that anyone who wants to cook can cook. But what I’ve come to appreciate is that not everyone wants to cook all the time. Even me. Those of us who love good food and value home cooking simply...can’t sometimes. And we still deserve the very best, something as good as if I had made it myself because, well, I basically have.
In the fall of 2025
A Very Good Tomato Sauce was born. A tangy, vibrant, ridiculously fresh-tasting sauce based on my favorite, famous-to-me recipe, one I had published more versions of than I could count. It was everything I could have ever wanted from a sauce, jarred or otherwise.
In the beginning we made just enough, one small batch at a time, and sold out about as fast as we could restock. Maybe we were…being too modest?
We called it A Very Good Tomato Sauce despite knowing deep in our hearts that it was A Great Tomato Sauce—the Best, even. While we were quite taken with the tongue-in-cheek name, everyone called it Alison Roman’s tomato sauce, so we decided to double down.
Now, we’re called Roman’s
We’re still making a Very Good Tomato Sauce—same sauce, new name, ready to be in as many kitchens as possible.

Where do you ship from?
Roman’s products ship directly from our Brooklyn warehouse to you.
Do you ship everywhere?
Right now, we only ship within the United States. International friends: see you, we love you, and we’re working on it.
How much does shipping cost?
Turns out jarred tomato sauce is both heavy and fragile! We charge a flat fee per 3-pack at checkout to cover some of the costs of packaging, shipping, and handling with care, but are happy to offer free shipping on all orders over $70.
When will I get my order?
Orders are usually processed within 2 business days. Once shipped, most packages arrive in 3–7 business days depending on where you live. If you’re in NYC we offer same day delivery (Monday–Friday on orders placed by 3 p.m.). You'll get tracking info so you can refresh it obsessively (we do the same).
Can I track my package?
Yes! A tracking number will be emailed to you once your order ships.
What if a jar arrives broken?
Take a photo and send it to hello@cookwithromans.com with your order number—we'll replace it.
What if my package is late or missing?
Sometimes shipping carriers have their own agenda. If it looks truly lost, email us at hello@cookwithromans.com and we'll do our best to figure it out.
Do you offer local pickup?
Not right now—everything ships from our Brooklyn warehouse, straight to your door.
Do you offer returns or exchanges?
We are not able to accept returns or exchanges.
